Appalled by President Obama's assertion that the private sector is "doing fine," Congressman Cory Gardner (R-CO) released the following statement:
"I would be interested to hear the President's definition of "doing fine.' Over 40 months of unemployment above 8 percent is the opposite of "doing fine,' and for 23 million struggling Americans it is a slap in the face to see President Obama go on TV and brag about his record on job creation."
The month of May gave way to some of the worst job news of 2012. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 23.2 million Americans are unemployed, underemployed or have given up looking for work all together. The average duration of unemployment has also more than doubled from 19.8 weeks to 39.7 weeks.
