Representative Larry Kissell (NC-08) joined local veterans and their families on Monday for a Memorial Day ceremony at Southside Cemetery in Troy to honor the men and women of our military who gave their lives in defense of our nation. Kissell joined those gathered in remembering not only those lost, but all who have served and continue to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces.
"It is an honor to join so many from our community to gather in remembrance and prayer to pay tribute to those who put their lives on the line in defense of freedom," said Kissell. "We must be sure that we remember all who put their country first to protect our loved ones and our fellow Americans. Without their service, we would not be blessed with the freedoms that we all enjoy today."
The group gathered to remember those locally who serve, and paused for a 21-gun salute in honor of those who were lost. The ceremony was organized by Dr. Reginald Nelson of Montgomery Veterans, Inc. in Troy.
"It's always a humbling experience to be present for a 21-gun salute, especially standing alongside those who have so proudly served our country," said Kissell. "Our state has a long tradition of military honor and history, and I consider myself blessed to represent so many of our brave men and women right here in Montgomery County and throughout our district."
