Issue Position

Our country is falling behind in the race to prepare students to enter an educated workforce that can compete in the 21st century knowledge-based economy. American companies increasingly look for college-educated employees from other countries to fill jobs.

We must continue to invest in education by investing in early childhood development programs, providing support to prevent teacher layoffs in K-12 schools and providing tax credits and Pell Grants to make the dream of a college education a reality for children of working families.

I have been known as an "education mayor" for leading city efforts to support local schools. I will be a strong advocate for our schools in Washington.
