Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4) has released the following statement in response to FERC's approval of a revised boundary for the Osage Hydroelectric project at Lake of the Ozarks:
"I am pleased that today's approval by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) of a revised Osage Hydroelectric project boundary for Lake of the Ozarks protects the homes of many citizens living close to the shoreline. This is a victory for common sense and the Constitutional right to ownership of property. While FERC's decision is positive, some property rights issues at the Lake remain and I will continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure the rights of Lake-area property owners are not being trampled on."
Congresswoman Hartzler, who represents citizens of the Lake of the Ozarks area, has been an outspoken opponent of FERC's initial ruling that would have resulted in the destruction of thousands of homes and other structures. She introduced legislation, co-sponsored by all members of Missouri's Congressional delegation, to restrict the ability of FERC to trample on the rights of property owners.
