No matter how we try to avoid it, taxes are a part of our lives. Taxes create the revenue for our government to operate. And as the government continues to grow and expand, more revenue or tax dollars are required to operate. First of all, we must stop the expansion and limit our government to providing us only with the services we need, not the services what we want. Gerald Ford, just five days after being sworn in as President stated, "A government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take away everything you have." We also need to balance the budget and start paying down the National Debt.
How do we do this? We need a new tax system that is fair to everyone living in America. Rich people, middle-class people, and poor people need to pay their fair share for the freedom and liberty we have in America. We need to implement a flat rate sales tax of 2-3% and reduce the income tax rates by 5%, which should produce about the same amount of revenue. Members of the House and the Senate have introduced several bills and other "fair taxation" organizations have similar plans. We need the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) to review these plans to determine if they are fair to all and generate sufficient revenue. After a comprehensive review, the CBO should issue a report to Congress with the pros and cons of each proposed program. Congress should then review the report and after a public debate, select the best program to replace, not modify, our existing tax system. I believe everyone is willing to pay their fair share for freedom. We need to limit the cost of government and implement a new tax system that is fair to all.
