Retired US Marine Colonel Paul Cook announced endorsements in his race for California's 8th Congressional District from Combat Veterans for Congress and Assemblyman Jeff Gorell (R-Camarillo), who recently returned home from active duty service in Afghanistan.

Combat Veterans for Congress is an organization dedicated to the election of fiscally conservative combat veterans to Congress. Cook joins a distinguished list of endorsees that includes Senator John McCain, Congressman Allen West, and Congressman Duncan Hunter. The organization looks for veterans who believe in limited government, will reduce federal spending, are committed to defending the Constitution, and will support the freedom of the individual as outlined in the Bill of Rights.

In their endorsement of Cook, Combat Veterans for Congress said the following: "He is a fiscally conservative candidate who will work to rein in the out-of-control-spending by Congress and the Obama Administration. He will work toward unleashing the private sector to grow once again, create jobs, and stimulate private sector business investmentÂ… he is a veteran who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to the United States of America for an amount up to and including his life."

Assemblyman Jeff Gorell also endorsed Colonel Cook for Congress. A third-generation Navy officer, Gorell serves currently as a Lt. Commander in the US Navy Reserve. He has completed two tours to the Middle East and Afghanistan and is decorated for his leadership in a combat zone. In 2011-2012, he commanded a targeting cell embedded with U.S. Marines in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan.

Said Gorell, "As a fellow veteran and colleague, I'm proud to support Colonel Cook for Congress. He fought for our nation as a US Marine, he's fighting for California taxpayers as a lawmaker, and I know he'll be a fighter in Congress."

Said Cook, "I'm happy to have Combat Veterans for Congress backing me in this tough race, and I'm proud to stand among the ranks of their endorsed candidates. And to have Jeff's support means a lot to me. Here's a guy who doesn't just talk about defending America; he's put himself on the line to do it. I'm honored to have his support."
