Marchant Statement on May Unemployment Report

Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) released the following statement regarding the Department of Labor's May 2012 unemployment report.

"Today's unemployment report is hugely disappointing to say the least. While House Republicans continue to pass legislation aimed at unleashing the potential of America's small businesses, Senate Democrats have refused to act. In fact, no less than 28 pro-growth bills passed by the House are languishing in the Senate which has also failed to pass a budget in over 1,100 days. Meanwhile, President Obama is in full campaign mode. The American people cannot wait until November for action.

"With 40 consecutive months of unemployment above 8% and the weakest post-recession economic recovery since World War II, it should be obvious now that the President's policies are not working. Even so, the House will continue to listen to the American people and pass laws that increase domestic energy production, repeal job-killing taxes on small businesses and manufacturers, and cut the unnecessary red-tape and regulation that has hampered our once-thriving private sector.

"We have millions of Americans, including nearly half of all recent college graduates, who are unemployed or underemployed but ready to work. We owe it to them to do what it takes to get this economy moving again. House Republicans are working hard to achieve this. Americans are wondering when the Senate and the President will be responsive to their demands for a change of course. It's clear that a bloated, ever-expanding government is not yielding the results promised by this Administration."
