More, better, and safer roads for all, not buses and light rail for a few. Eastern Washington deserves, and I will continue to fight for, a fair distribution of tax dollars.
"I experience great satisfaction at seeing my country proceed to facilitate the intercommunications of its several parts, by opening rivers, canals and roads. How much more rational is this disposal of public money " Thomas Jefferson (Letter to James Ross, 1786) Since the 1960's, we have been promised the North/South Freeway, and a five cents a gallon gas tax increase in 1991 was supposed to pay for it. We are now being told we must pay for it locally. This is despite the fact that for every $1 of the gas tax, only 53 cents is spent in Spokane (confirm this number) County while $1.59 is spent in King County. A partial segment of the North/South Freeway is now open, but there is no funding to finish the project. I will continue to oppose any attempts by Democrats to divert funding to the Alaska Way Viaduct and other projects in Seattle/King County (Transportation (Alaskan Way Viaduct) ). I will also continue fighting for funding to ensure more, and better maintained roads in the 4th District.
