As we approach Tax Day on April 15th, Dewhurst for Texas is commemorating David Dewhurst previously signing the Americans for Taxpayer Reform (ATR) Taxpayer Protection Pledge, committing him to "oppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rates for individuals and/or businesses" and "oppose any net reduction or elimination of deductions and credits, unless matched dollar for dollar by further reducing tax rates."
After Dewhurst signed the pledge in November 2011, ATR President Grover Norquist said, "I want to congratulate Mr. Dewhurst for taking the Taxpayer Protection Pledge. The American people clearly showed their displeasure in November with the tax-and-spend policies coming from Washington. They want real solutions that create jobs and cut government spending.
"By signing the Pledge, David Dewhurst demonstrates that he understands the problems of hard-working taxpayers nationwide, but especially the taxpayers of Texas," Norquist continued.
"I am proud to have opposed any new taxes in Texas during my tenure as Lieutenant Governor and Texas Land Commissioner," said David Dewhurst. "Taxes are not the solution to fixing the problems we face in Washington. In the U.S. Senate, my top priorities will be to reduce federal spending and taxes to balance our budget, putting money back in Americans pockets where it belongs."
