Texas is the nation's leader in job creation during these difficult times. As a member of the Senate Finance Committee, I'm proud to have helped craft fiscally sound budgets that protect taxpayers while funding essential services. Because of our conservative approach, Texas has fared much better than most during the economic downturn.
In the last legislative session we cut the state's budget by $15.2 billion. And we did this while at the same time leaving the state's Rainy Day Fund untouched, and without raising taxes.
Should I be re-elected, I am committed to taking a radical look at some of our state's biggest areas of spending to see if even more money can be saved. By mainting a commitment to smaller, limited government, I believe Texas will continue to be the kind of state where investors and job creators will want to do business.
