Apparently Silvestre Reyes can't be bothered to attend debates or forums. Last night he failed to show up to a debate hosted by University Democrats at UTEP, despite the fact that Congress is not in session this week.
According to the University Democrats, every possible attempt was made to accommodate Reyes' schedule, yet students, UTEP staff and others in attendance still found an empty chair.
This isn't the first time this has happened, in fact, it's becoming a regular occurrence. See the list of some of the debates and forums he's missed below.
To add insult to injury, he sends his taxpayer-funded Washington, D.C. legislative director to campaign on his behalf at most of the debates he misses.
Unfortunately Reyes is a no-show in Congress also. With an attendance record in the lowest five percent of Congress, it seems like he can't be bothered to show up to vote or represent El Paso's interests.
So if he's not showing up to participate in the first contested Congressional primary in 16 years and he's not voting or working for El Paso in Congress, where is he?
El Paso needs a full-time representative that is willing to show up to get the job done.
Some of the debates and candidates' forums Reyes has missed so far:
Riverside High School Debate
Eastside Candidate Forum at Burges High School
Eastside Civic Association
Super Wednesday Debate hosted by El Paso Stonewall Young Democrats, the Eastside Democrats, City Rep. Emma Acosta, and the EPCC Teacher Preparation Program
EPCC Student Government Association Spring Debate at Valle Verde Campus
EPCC Student Government Association Spring Debate at Transmountain Campus
University Democrats Debate at the UTEP Union Cinema
