U.S. Representative Glenn 'GT' Thompson today encouraged families and individuals to prepare for Hurricane Season by recognizing National Hurricane Preparedness Week, which runs from May 27th through June 2nd. Hurricane season begins today, June 1st, and lasts until November 30th.
"Over the last year, Pennsylvanians have withstood hostile tropical storm and related flood activity," said Representative Thompson. "We must be prepared to reduce the effects of any natural disaster, and I encourage everyone to plan a hurricane route, prepare an emergency kit, and stay connected and informed of weather forecasts as we move into the hurricane and storm season."
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) kicked off their annual National Hurricane Preparedness Week to create awareness leading up to the start of the season. More information can be found at www.ready.gov/hurricanes.
"Regardless of predictions on how active the upcoming storm season will be, preparation can save lives and we are all better off by taking precautionary actions to mitigate the impact of unforeseen catastrophes," Representative Thompson added.
