Today, Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-Miramar) made the following statement regarding the upcoming 2012 hurricane season, which will begin on the first of June:
"With hurricane season rapidly approaching, it is never too early to start planning. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts a 70 percent chance of between 9 to 15 named storms in 2012. The threat of these destructive and often unpredictable storms poses significant danger to our communities and therefore it is critically important that all Floridians adequately prepare.
"I continue to work closely with federal, state, and local agencies, as well as with my colleagues in Congress, to ensure that the necessary resources will be available and ready to respond in the event of a natural disaster. In particular, I continue to push for much-needed reform as it relates to prioritizing power restoration, debris removal, the availability of local generators, and ensuring temporary housing for those who become displaced.
"Please feel free to call my Ft. Lauderdale office at 954-733-2800 or Delray Beach office at 561-243-7042 with any concerns or questions that you may have regarding this upcoming hurricane season. I also invite you to visit my official web site at www.alceehastings.house.gov, where I have provided additional information and resources to help you prepare for this year's hurricane season."
