Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) released the following statement today after voting in favor of H.R. 3541, the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act (PRENDA). This legislation prohibits abortions performed on the basis of the child's gender and outlaws the coercion of any woman to obtain a gender-based abortion.
"Every American, both born and unborn, is entitled to the inalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act is an important step forward to protecting innocent life in America. Not only are babies being aborted but they are being aborted simply because of their gender. It's unconscionable that America is the only advanced country that does not restrict gender-selection abortions. In fact, victims of gender-selection abortions are overwhelmingly female, and such despicable procedures should be outlawed immediately," said Bill Johnson.
Johnson added, "As a husband, father of two daughters, and grandfather of five -- including four little girls - there is no doubt in my mind that life begins at conception and that innocent life should always be protected. This is why I will always fight for the rights of the unborn."
