From the bottom of my heart, thank you to each and every one of you.
Your incredible support allowed us to win over 83% of the vote in the Republican primary. With over 740,000 votes cast for our campaign, that makes us the largest recipient of votes this election!
That's over 740,000 votes for fixing our broken state. That's over 740,000 North Carolinians who want a new leader in Raleigh to fix our broken government and broken economy. And that's over 740,000 of you standing up for education reform that demands we do better than failing to graduate over 20% of our high school students.
As mayor of Charlotte, I built a reputation as a bipartisan reformer who brought leaders together from different political parties to fix tough problems. And I think now is the time to bring that same leadership to state government.
That's why last night I proudly accepted the Republican nomination for governor of North Carolina. I love Charlotte and it was an honor to serve as the city's mayor and be a part of a team that helped build an economic hub and a wonderful quality of life, but I love this state even more and now we're going to do the same in North Carolina.
To turn North Carolina around, we must first turn the page from the failed leadership of the Easley/Perdue/Dalton team. We must all work together as a state -- Republican, Democrat and Independent -- to put our recourses back to work.
Let's build on our success and continue to expand our growing team.
