Yadkinville residents may have noticed an RV traveling the streets inscribed with the phrase "Run Forest Run" along the side.

It was not the well-known Tom Hanks character but the Republican candidate for lieutenant governor, Dave Forest.

Forest traveled briefly through Yadkinville on his way to speak at the Surry County GOP event in Mount Airy on April 5.

"We started on Tuesday of this week doing a barnstorming tour of the state," Forest said. "We're taking the RV around the state for the next 35 days up until primary time and we're going to three or four counties every single day."

Forest spent the majority of that day speaking to residents of Watauga and Ashe counties. Forrest said that they would host a mobile hospitality suite for people attending the Surry GOP event.

"We're just taking our campaign to the people, kind of an old fashioned grassroots style," Forest said. "There's so many people out west and down east that say "nobody ever comes to see us and nobody really represents us because they don't even show up here' so we're showing up and letting people know that we care."

Forest said that as he visits each county he is focusing on the issues that he will face if elected as the state's lieutenant governor. His "three-legged stool" consists of discussions about education, job creation and illegal immigration.

Forest says that as lieutenant governor he would be sitting on state education boards, state economic development boards and would have law enforcement appointment laws, which he says make all of these topics pertinent to his campaign.

Forest believes that his campaign has received a great response so far.

"The latest poll that came out had Dan in the lead," said Hal Weathrman, Forest's campaign manager. "Most people are undecided but of the declared candidates, Dan was leading and was polling in the double digits in four of the six regions of the state. We were one percentage point ahead of one of the guys and three percentage points ahead of the other one."
