U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., today marked the upcoming Memorial Day holiday with a video message honoring those Louisianians who gave their lives in defense of their country. She also offered her thanks to America's veterans, and her thoughts and prayers to the active duty men and women currently in harm's way, as well as their families who support them at home.
"This weekend, families in Louisiana and across America will gather together to honor those men and women who have died in service to our country," Sen. Landrieu said. "As our troops continue to return home from Afghanistan and Iraq, it is important to remember the promises we make to those who sacrifice so much for our freedoms, including the many family members who support our troops. This Memorial Day, we keep the families of those still fighting overseas in our thoughts and pray for our troops' safe return home."
During the last decade of war, 6,459 U.S. military men and women have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our freedoms. Since last Memorial Day, Louisiana has lost seven brave service men who called our great state home.
