As a fourth generation Wyoming rancher, I know firsthand the importance of the Second Amendment to our way of life in Wyoming. Firearms are important tools for so many of Wyoming's citizens, whether for self-defense, recreation or even one's business occupation. Our Founding Fathers believed so strongly in our right to own and use firearms that they made it part of our Bill of Rights.

I am a co-Chair of the House 2nd Amendment Task Force, which actively promotes pro-gun legislation and works to defeat proposals that limit the fundamental, constitutional, individual right of law-abiding citizens to own and use firearms. All too often, this right is under attack in Washington by those who do not fully understand its importance in the rural west.

With Republicans now in control of the House of Representatives, legislation to dilute the Second Amendment faces an uphill battle. But we must remain vigilant in the face of an Administration that threatens gun owners -- from the Department of Justice's Fast and Furious debacle to the State Department's blocking the importation of legal, collectible firearms.

I have introduced H.R. 615, the Collectible Firearms Protection Act, which would allow the importation of U.S.-made, Korean War-era rifles from the South Korean government. The Obama Administration has decided to block this transaction despite the fact that these firearms are legal to make and own in the United States, popular in shooting competitions, and coveted by collectors.
