"Today, I ask every Southern Arizonan to take a moment to reflect on why we established Memorial Day. We did it to honor the lives of our service members. To recognize the generations of men and women who have served and fought to keep our country free and to protect our liberties. And, with deep gratitude, to reflect on the final sacrifice that so many have made.
"We are grateful to the servicemen and women who give what Lincoln termed "the last full measure of devotion.' We honor their memories, remember their families, and those who have lost loved ones in service to our country. It is up to each of us, not only today, but every day-- to live up to the best of this country for which they have sacrificed."
