"This Memorial Day, we remember the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War as a national awakening. A half-century later, all Americans have a special appreciation for the indescribable wartime sacrifices made by our men and women in uniform.
"Today we are united in our respect for those who leave their families behind and risk everything while fighting under our flag. As our friends and neighbors return home from multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, let's miss no opportunity to thank them for their extraordinary sacrifice in defense of liberty.
"And here at the U.S. Department of Labor, we celebrate and honor veterans, service members and their families everyday, through our work ensuring they receive job training and employment services once they complete their service, as well as seeing to it that they are paid fairly and have safe and healthy working conditions."
