Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, has released the following statement to mark Armed Forces Day:
"On Armed Forces Day, United States citizens come together to thank our men and women in uniform for their patriotic service in support of our country. Americans have been marking this day since 1949 to honor those serving in the various branches of the U.S. military -- the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard. It is fitting that we celebrate this day the week the House has passed the National Defense Authorization Act which will ensure servicemen and women protecting our freedoms have the resources they need to protect themselves and keep us free. In recognition of the service performed by military personnel who sacrifice so much to protect our country, the National Park Service will begin issuing an annual pass offering free entrance to all 397 national parks for active duty military members and their dependents. Information on the pass is available at: www.nps.gov/findapark/passes.htm. I ask all Americans to join me in praying that God keeps watch over these Americans who give so selflessly."
Congresswoman Hartzler represents Missouri's Fourth Congressional District, home to two of America's major military installations: Fort Leonard Wood and Whiteman Air Force Base -- home of the B-2.
