Today, Congressman Mike Michaud issued the following statement upon news that the United States Postal Service will keep the Eastern Maine Processing and Distribution Center in Hampden open:
"I am relieved by news that the Eastern Maine Processing and Distribution Center in Hampden will remain open. The Hampden facility and its workers provide a critical service that all Mainers depend on. I will continue to work with my House colleagues to put the United States Postal Service on a path to permanent sustainability so that workers in Hampden are never faced with this uncertainty again.
"I am hopeful that House leadership will soon bring the bill recently passed by the Senate to the floor for consideration. While by no means perfect, the bill would provide the opportunity for the House to begin a discussion on how to build a strong postal service for the years to come."
