Congressman Mike Michaud will sponsor three workshops next week aimed at helping Maine fire departments navigate the process for obtaining Assistance to Firefighter Grants. Specialists from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which administers the grant program, will be on hand to provide help with the application process.

Assistance to Firefighter Grants help local fire departments and other emergency organizations gain access to critical equipment and supplies necessary to keep their communities safe. Workshops in Auburn, Bangor, and Presque Isle will provide information on funding opportunities, the award evaluation process, and AFG funding priorities for FY2012 awards.

"Assistance to Firefighter Grants help provide critical resources to help first responders keep Mainers safe," said Michaud. "In this time of tightening municipal resources, this workshop will help fire departments gain access to the resources they need to protect our communities."

The first AFG workshop will be held in Auburn on May 29 in Room 15 of Jalbert Hall at Central Maine Community College at 1:30 p.m. The second will be held in Bangor on May 30 in 107 Rangeley Hall at Eastern Maine Community College at 9:30 a.m. A final workshop will be held at noon on June 1 at the Presque Isle Fire Department at 12:00 p.m.
