The following statement was issued in response to David McIntosh's attacks on Susan Brooks' community service:
"I care deeply about my community, having served on numerous boards during my professional career, including the Women's Fund of Central Indiana. Unlike my opponent, David McIntosh, whose service on boards in Indiana is apparently limited to a lobbying client, my philanthropic endeavors are an important aspect of my life.
"I am pro-life. I believe also in the work of the Women's Fund of Central Indiana. They provide financial support for women's health issues. This includes a $22,175 grant last year to Planned Parenthood to provide annual exams, tests and screening about birth control supplies to women who need these services the most and are unable to pay due to financial hardship. These private funds did not support abortion services.*
"Only in David McIntosh's cynical, inside-the-beltway view is an individual's service to one's community a source for dishonest political attacks. It is what voters have come to expect from politicians like David who will do and say anything to get elected."
