Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that Southern Illinois University Carbondale has received a $382,000 Upward Bound Program grant through the U.S. Department of Education. The funds are for the first year of an expected five-year grant. The Upward Bound Program provides assistance to first-generation college students or low-income students to finish secondary school, enter post-secondary school and complete a degree. Services may include tutoring, assistance with college applications and student loan applications, and receiving information about financial aid.
"Given the importance of a college education in today's job market, these are significant resources for our universities and eligible students," said Costello. "I will continue to support efforts to provide interested students the opportunity to attend college."
