Kerry Responds to Twitter "Do Not Track" Announcement

Statement

U.S. Senator John Kerry, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Communications, Technology and the Internet, made the following statement today after Twitter announced it would not track people who have chosen to enable the "Do Not Track" setting on their Web browsers.

"Twitter's announcement proves that exercising respect for people's choices on how, when, and where to have their information collected is something that responsible, competitive companies can do. I hope others will follow," said Sen. Kerry. "Just because the law does not yet require a certain standard of behavior, isn't a reason for companies to persistently track and target a person's every move across the Internet without their consent."
