House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) has distributed a staff briefing paper and draft of a contempt of Congress resolution against Attorney General Eric Holder to Members of the House Oversight Committee. The briefing paper explains what happened in Operation Fast and Furious, the hardships faced by the family of fallen Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry in getting truthful answers about his death, how agents who blew the whistle on the reckless operation have faced retaliation, and the carnage in Mexico that Fast and Furious has helped fuel.
"The Justice Department and the Obama administration have continued to stonewall the American people and congressional investigators," said Representative DesJarlais. "We have given the attorney general ample opportunity to come forth and present the facts surrounding Fast and Furious, yet his department has refused to cooperate. After reviewing the draft report, I believe that this is an appropriate course of action and urge Chairman Issa to move forward with this resolution holding Attorney General Holder in contempt of Congress. I truly wish that it hadn't gotten to this point, but their actions have left us with no other choice."
