Rep. Buerkle Statement on April Jobs Numbers

Statement

Location: Syracuse, NY

Today, Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle (NY-25) released the following statement in reaction to the April jobs report from the U.S. Department of Labor. A net total of 115,000 jobs were created and the unemployment rate remained above 8 percent.

"Any sign of job growth is good news for the American people. While today's jobs numbers bring some encouraging news, the unemployment rate is still too high and the economy remains far too weak. In addition, these numbers do not reflect the number of people who have given up on looking for employment," said Rep. Buerkle.

"Economic recovery could be happening at a much quicker pace if a responsible plan to reduce our debt and create certainty in our economy were established. What we are seeing instead is a Senate which has refused to pass a budget for more than three years, and a President who continues to institute the failed policies of over-regulation, increased taxes, and wasteful spending.

"With families continuing to struggle to make ends meet in difficult economic times, it is more important than ever that we work for positive, bipartisan solutions to generate economic certainty and empower America's small businesses to create jobs."
