Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06), Senior Democrat on the House Energy & Commerce Health Subcommittee and a primary author of the Affordable Care Act, today praised the announcement that the Monmouth Family Health Center in Long Branch will receive an investment of more than $3.4 million to expand its facilities and serve more patients. The grant was made possible by the Affordable Care Act, also known as the health care reform law. Pallone will visit the Monmouth County health facility on Thursday with U.S. Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ).

Community health centers are locally-controlled, non-profit entities that provide primary care, oral and behavioral health, and pharmacy services in rural and urban underserved communities. With today's grants, New Jersey will receive more than $18 million in grants through the Affordable Care Act to expand community health centers, which will enable the centers to serve nearly 17,500 new patients. The money will provide funds to expand their facilities, improve existing services, and serve more patients, as well as, address pressing facility and equipment needs.

"I am proud that, thanks to the Affordable Care Act, more families in in Monmouth County will have improved access to critical health services, said Pallone. "The grant will not only increase access to quality health care, but also enable the Monmouth Family Health Center to create good health care jobs in the community."

Overall, since the beginning of 2009, employment at community health centers nationwide has increased by 15 percent. Primarily due to the Affordable Care Act, community health centers are serving nearly 3 million additional patients today and will serve an additional 1.3 million additional new patients in the next two years.
