Griffin: House Passes Bill That Funds Critical Programs and Continues Historic Savings for Hardworking Taxpayers

Congressman Tim Griffin (AR-02) issued the following statement after House passage of H.R. 5326, the Commerce, Justice, and Science appropriations bill:

"Respecting taxpayer dollars is a top priority, and that's why I support important funding for law enforcement, economic development and scientific research while achieving real savings for the American people. This bill stops President Obama's legal challenges on state immigration laws, prohibits the Census Bureau from levying fines against Americans who choose not to participate in the American Community Survey and is another step in the House's effort to reduce our nation's budget deficit."

H.R. 5326 would provide funding for the Department of Commerce, the Department of Justice, and Federal science agencies, such as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the National Science Foundation (NSF), and related agencies. This year's bill saves hardworking American taxpayers over $1.6 billion -- or three percent -- compared to last year's funding levels. This represents a cut of 20 percent over the past three years and almost a billion dollars below FY 2008 levels.
