Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) issued the following statement in condemnation of Russia's blatant threat yesterday to pre-emptively attack and destroy NATO missile defense sites in Europe, particularly those led by the U.S. Russia has threatened the strikes should their diplomatic efforts to prevent the construction of new missile sites prove unsuccessful.
"Russia has once again demonstrated an aggressive stance toward the United States and our allies. Moscow's continued military support for the Iranian regime only reinforces that a strong missile defense system is absolutely vital to the safety and security of the U.S. homeland, American citizens living overseas, and the protection of our troops deployed to the Middle East.
"Last year I introduced a successful amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that prohibited the Administration from sharing our missile defense technologies, particularly hit-to-kill technologies, with the Russian Federation. This year, my amendment is once again under consideration for the NDAA FY2013. Russia's threats to destroy U.S.-led NATO sites highlights the importance of passing my amendment to prevent our hit-to-kill technologies from falling into the wrong hands. I hope that my fellow Members of Congress will take these recent coercive statements by the Russian Federation into account."
