Issue Position

Democrats in Congress have fought to restore fiscal responsibility after President Bush and Congressional Republicans left the Federal Government with deep deficits. The fiscal legacy of Republicans in Congress clearly shows how they turned surpluses into massive deficits by borrowing trillions of dollars to finance the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, give tax cuts for the wealthy who don't need these breaks, and caused major increases in government spending. Democrats are focused on Americans' top priority -- creating jobs -- while strengthening the middle class, preserving Medicare, and responsibly reducing the deficit.
