Walberg Weekly Wrap Up: Cybersecurity & Student Loans

Statement

Dear friends,

The House passed a series of bills this week aimed at making the internet safer after the recent increase of attacks on government agencies and private citizens. The pieces of legislation will also provide businesses with better tools and information to respond to malicious attacks while imposing no new regulations.

Separately, the House also took an important, bipartisan step in addressing the flawed Dodd-Frank financial reform legislation by ensuring its unintended consequences do not overly burden our nation's smaller banks, credit unions, and Farm Credit banks. The Small Business Credit Availability Act exempts these lenders and financial institutions from the most onerous regulations of Dodd-Frank and will especially help the rural communities in our district.

Lastly, the Department of Labor (DOL) announced late Thursday it is withdrawing the proposed rule which would have put burdensome restrictions on farm work for children under the age of 16. It marked a significant victory for Michigan families that depend on youths to keep their farms up and running.
