Congressman John Boehner this week welcomed Ohio Farm Bureau county presidents to what has become an annual forum with lawmakers in Washington, D.C. Boehner reiterated the need for an "all-of-the-above" energy strategy to address high gas prices, and encouraged the Ohio ag community to reach out to their representatives as Congress begins to consider a Farm Bill reauthorization.
Key excerpts are included below:
>> BOEHNER ON THE NEED TO UNLOCK AMERICA'S VAST ENERGY RESOURCES & ADDRESS RISING ENERGY PRICES:
"We've got oil, we've got natural gas, we've got coal, but they're doing everything they can to prevent us from using it. You know we have a number of coal fired electricity plants in Ohio shutting down. They're shutting down all over the country because of the rules coming out of the EPA."
>> BOEHNER SAYS GOP WILL CONTINUE TO FIGHT FOR AN "ALL OF THE ABOVE" ENERGY STRATEGY:
"We're going to continue to press on this. We've been for an "all of the above' national energy policy for oh about the last 35 years. And the last five years we've really plugged away at this."
>> BOEHNER URGES OHIO AG COMMUNITY TO REACH OUT TO LAWMAKERS AS WORK BEGINS ON FARM BILL REAUTHORIZATION:
"You're going to see a farm bill that's going to have a lot of fresh eyes on it. That's why it's going to be important for the Farm Bureau and other ag groups to educate these new members. It's be frankly, I think, a trying time to look at what's the kind of safety net that's really helpful for agriculture, and what really doesn't need to be there."
John understands the harmful impact that excessive government regulations have on our agriculture community. That's why he's fighting to cut needless government red tape, open up new markets to Oho farmers overseas and offering an all-of-the-above energy plan to address high gas prices.
