Begich Statement on IHA's for Chukchi & Beaufort Seas

U.S. Sen. Mark Begich issued the following statement after the National Marine Fisheries Service issued Incidental Harassment Authorizations (IHAs) to Shell today for the company's work this summer in the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas:

"The IHAs include required mitigation and monitoring measures that are expected to reduce adverse impacts to marine mammals and Alaska Native subsistence activities.

"This is more good news for Alaskans as we move another step forward toward Arctic offshore drilling this summer. We are already seeing equipment and vessels being mobilized for this season's exploration and workers are going through final training.

"After years of hard work and investment, Alaskans will now see a new era of development starting in the Arctic."
