Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.) today issued the following statement after voting for a bipartisan extension of the Violence Against Women Act:
"We all hope for a day that this law is no longer needed, but domestic violence against women continues to be a real and tragic problem that must be addressed by our law enforcement and justice systems. This legislation strengthens existing law, especially punishments for those who commit violent acts."
The Violence Against Women Act passed the Senate 68 to 31.
