Today, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.) issued the following statement on the one-year anniversary of the capture of Osama bin Laden:
"One year ago, President Obama ordered the military operation that led to the capture and demise of Osama bin Laden, the al-Qaeda terrorist mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks and the earlier bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993. Nearly 3,000 innocent people lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and the attack cost billions of dollars to the U.S. economy.
"We must remember this day and teach our children about it. One year after President Obama's decisive action, al-Qaeda is in disarray and the world is a safer place.
"As philosopher George Santayana said, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.' We must not forget this historic anniversary or the tragic events that preceded bin Laden's demise."
