U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney (FL-16), Chairman of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy and Poultry, today released the following statement after the Department of Labor announced it would withdraw its proposed regulation to prohibit young people from working on family farms:
"The response from our family farmers and ranchers to this regulation was loud, swift and unanimous. Farmers and ranchers across the country sent a clear message that they will not stand by while the Obama Administration tells them how to farm their land, and they certainly will not allow this Administration to tell them how to raise their families.
"While it confounds common sense that this regulation was proposed in the first place, I want to commend the family farmers and ranchers who stood up for their rights as both farmers and parents and forced the Obama Administration to withdraw this misguided regulation."
Rooney cosponsored the "Preserving America's Family Farm Act," HR 4157, which would prevent the Department of Labor from implementing its proposed rule.
