From El Centro:
The Calexico Unified School District is being forced to lay-off ninety full time teachers this year. Last year it was forced to lay-off over 100 full time teachers. Almost 200 full time jobs because the Democratically controlled State of California has been withholding funds due to Calexico at an alarming rate. The State owes Calexico nine million dollars. Not only are the remaining teachers being forced to take 10-15 percent pay cuts, but they are being required to pay additional money towards medical coverage. If the House can give BILLIONS of dollars to banks and Wall Street so they can hand out million dollar bonuses, why can't education be given the same consideration! The future of our kids education is at stake.
Congressman Filner replies:
Thank you for contacting me about the importance of education funding.
As an educator and former President of the San Diego School Board, I wholeheartedly support increased funding for education programs! Please be assured that I will continue to work with my colleagues to provide our children with all the resources they need to succeed.
I appreciate your advocacy on this important issue.
