Congresswoman Shelley Berkley today released the following statement marking the 64th anniversary of Israeli Independence and celebrating the birth of the State of Israel:

"I send my best wishes and a very hearty Mazel Tov to the people of the State of Israel on the 64th anniversary of Israel's independence and birth as a nation.

"Over the past 64 years, the world has witnessed Israel's remarkable development -- from its flourishing culture and dynamic economy to its vital role as America's most trusted ally.

"I'm proud to have visited Israel many times and to know the amazing history of this unique nation and its leaders. I am also proud of my work in Congress to help protect the families of Israel and the homeland of the Jewish people.

"Israel is truly a modern day "land of milk and honey' brought forth from the desert by the hands and hard work of the Israeli people. Today, we join together in celebrating the anniversary of Israel's Independence and the birth of a nation that remains a living testament to the strength of its people and its commitment to democratic ideals."
