Today, Congressman Sires joined his colleagues in the House of Representatives in supporting H.R. 2146, the Digital Accountability and Transparency Act (DATA Act). This legislation would promote accountability and transparency in federal spending by imposing universal reporting requirement for recipients of federal grants, loans, and contracts. The Bill passed the House by voice vote.
"At a time when families across the nation are tightening their belts and living within their means, it is critical that the federal government do the same" said Congressman Sires. "I'm proud to support legislation that gives the American people confidence that their tax dollars are wisely spent and accounted for".
The bipartisan DATA Act limits federal agency travel expenses and requires agency spending information to be disclosed publicly on a single online platform. Additionally, H.R. 2146 places limits on spending for agency conferences and requires new reporting and public disclosure of conference costs and activities. H.R. 2146 is now under review in the Senate.
