Congressman Steve Rothman (NJ-9) released the following statement in honor of Earth Day, which will take place on Sunday, April 22, 2012:
As large corporations continue to seek profit at the cost of public health and environmental quality, it is more important than ever to continue the fight for clean air, water, and land.
I am proud of New Jersey's leadership in protecting our state's natural resources. Landmark federal legislation like the Clean Air Act in 1970 and the Clean Water Act in 1972 set the national standard for the protection of our health, our air, our water, and our future. I will continue to stand against irresponsible big business and right-wing Republicans who seek to undermine these laws and other environmental protections.
From restoring and protecting the Meadowlands to introducing the Security in Energy and Manufacturing (SEAM) Act, a bill to ensure investments in a clean energy, I will continue to lead the fight for a healthy and clean environment.
On Earth Day and every day, we must remember the importance of a healthy planet to all of us and find some time to give back to the environment.
