Republican candidate for Ohio's 2nd Congressional District, Dr. Brad Wenstrup says his campaign has raised more funding during the fourth-quarter than any other candidate -- Republican and Democrat -- combined.
"The people of Southwest Ohio are ready for principled leadership, and I am humbled at the depth of their support. In Congress, I will stay true to my conservative principles and fight for lower taxes; an end to unnecessary, job-killing regulations; and a balanced budget," Wenstrup said.
Wenstrup announced in July his intent to challenge incumbent Republican Rep. Jean Schmidt for the Ohio 2nd. He has practiced medicine for nearly 25 years, and in 1998 he accepted an officer's commission with the U.S. Army Reserve, serving in the Medical Service Corps. In 2005, he was deployed to Iraq where he served as a combat surgeon with the 344th Combat Support Hospital. He is currently a board member of Boys Hope/Girls Hope, and a partner at Wellington Orthopaedic in Hamilton County. He also founded the Thank America First Foundation.
"Serving in the military and earning a Bronze Star have been two of my proudest achievements," Wenstrup said. "But now it's time to put that leadership to work on the tremendous challenges facing our nation."
He accused politicians of both major parties of spending too much money
"They forget to focus on what matters most -- fixing the economic mess they created and putting people back to work. As a business owner, doctor and veteran, I have the experience to confront the critical issues facing our country and focus on conservative solutions that will improve the lives of the people of the 2nd district of Ohio," Wenstrup said.
Incumbent candidate Jean Schmidt took the district in 2005, and is seeking re-election this year.
In addition to Wenstrup and Schmidt, Fred Kundrata, Tony Brush, and Joe Green are also seeking the Republican nomination for Ohio's Second U.S. House District in March.
