Congressman Jeff Landry (R, LA-03), who represents the district most impacted by the BP oil spill and Obama moratorium, issued the following statement on the unfortunate two-year anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon tragedy:
"Today, as we remember the 11 lives lost in the tragic Deepwater Horizon accident, Sharon and I pray for the repose of the workers' souls and the comfort of their families. And we pray for all affected by the spill and subsequent moratorium on drilling.
We have learned so much since the spill and have greatly improved the safety of our environment. And we continue to work hard to improve the safety of the brave men and women risking their lives extracting the energy that fuels our economy.
Unfortunately, many have allowed politics to block worker safety and job creation in South Louisiana. Putting elections over people not only dishonors the victims of Deepwater Horizon, but it also does no favors to their survivors. We deserve better.
I will continue to do all I can to get the Gulf back up and running in a safe and prosperous manner. And I will continue to fight for fair compensation to our commercial fishermen, shrimpers, and oilfield workers impacted by the President's moratorium."
