On Wednesday, the House passed H.R. 4348, the Surface Transportation Extension Act, Part II. This extension includes important provisions to significantly cut the red tape that delays highway and bridge projects across the country. The measure also includes a provision requiring the Obama Administration to issue a permit for the construction of the Keystone XL energy pipeline within 30 days. The Keystone pipeline will help lower energy costs for Americans and decrease reliance on unstable Middle East oil. Approving and constructing the Keystone XL pipeline should help bring in approximately one million barrels of oil per day to U.S. markets. Bringing a massive amount of oil to market from a politically and economically secure source will restore market confidence and help lower and stabilize gas prices. Americans deserve a true all of the above energy policy that attacks rising energy prices, creates thousands of high paying jobs, and secures our energy independence.
