Today, Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3) issued the following statement upon the Federal Highway Administration's approval of the Supplemental Final Environmental Impact Statement for the Ohio River Bridges Project. Approval is necessary to advance the project.
"During this process, I have received personal commitments from President Obama and U.S. Transportation Secretary LaHood that the project will be expedited through the federal approval process, and clearly they are following through on that promise," Yarmuth said. "If all goes as planned, I am optimistic that final federal approval of the Bridges Project will be completed this summer."
The federal Department of Transportation must still issue a Record of Decision, which would conclude the federal review of the project.
Congressman Yarmuth also called on the Kentucky Senate to approve funding for the Bridges Project.
"Over the past decade or more, the people of the Commonwealth and the region have considered and adjudicated this project," Yarmuth said. "There is no legitimate reason for further delay. I urge the state Senate to approve funds for the Ohio River Bridges Project, and put Kentucky back on the road of progress."
