U.S. Senator Jim Risch welcomed the news from the White House that Kristine Svinicki will be renominated to serve as a commissioner on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for the Republican-designated seat she currently holds.

"Kristine Svinicki is one of the most well-qualified people to ever serve on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)," said Risch. "Her depth of knowledge on all aspects of U.S. nuclear activities makes her indispensable to the commission.

"As only the third woman to serve as a commissioner, she is a strong and independent voice on the commission and is exactly what the NRC needs to oversee our nation's nuclear resurgence. I applaud her decision to raise serious concerns about the hostile work environment at the NRC created by Chairman Jazcko, particularly as it relates to women, and to bring this to the attention of the White House and Congress.

"It is important to note that Ms. Svinicki was unanimously confirmed by the Senate five years ago, and it is important that the Democrat leadership move her through the full Senate before her current term expires."

Svinicki's current term is set to expire June 30.
