Hunting and recreational shooting are a significant part of America's heritage. That's why I introduced the Target Practice and Marksmanship Training Support Act. It helps ensure there are enough ranges to safely practice recreational shooting by giving states greater flexibility over federal funds they already receive to build new ranges. While I was in Colorado Springs for a town hall meeting, I also met with El Paso County Commissioner Sallie Clark and other members of the sportsmen community to discuss the importance of boosting Coloradans' access to high-quality shooting ranges. The positive response to my bill from Coloradans has been overwhelming. Over 5,200 Coloradans have expressed their support in a petition asking the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee to hold a hearing on my bill, and others have even submitted personal stories in support of the bill. Today, I am proud to announce the committee has scheduled a hearing for April 24, 2012.
