Congressman Spencer Bachus (AL-6) today voted for legislation to provide tax relief for small businesses.
Bachus is a cosponsor of the Small Business Tax Cut Act of 2012, which passed the House by a vote of 235-173. Under the current tax code, many small businesses pay a third of their income -- and in some cases, even more -- in taxes to pay for government spending, siphoning revenues that could be used to hire workers or buy new equipment. The legislation will reduce taxes for small businesses with up to 500 employees.
"You will either choose government or you will choose the people. You will choose the government to "create' jobs like Solyndra, and we saw the disaster there, or you will allow the people to create those jobs. I am putting my trust in the people," Congressman Bachus said during remarks on the House floor.
The U.S. has the highest corporate tax rate in the world, according to international statistics compiled by the Organization for Economic Development and Cooperation.
