House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) today issued the following statement on a recent AP study showing that one in two recent college graduates is unemployed or underemployed:
"The tough economy has taken its toll on working families and small businesses across the country, but a recent poll out today illustrates just how hard it's made it for recent college graduates to find a job. According to the study, one in two college graduates is either unemployed or underemployed -- working a job unrelated to their field of study just to make ends meet. This is not the America we grew up in and it's not the country of opportunity that America has always been.
"We need to do everything we can to get the economy going so that the next generation of leaders has the same opportunity that we did at their age to find a job, work hard and succeed. Unfortunately, the President and his party continue to go down a path that will make it even more difficult for young Americans to find work rather than supporting pro-growth policies that would actually create quality jobs for these young people like the Small Business Tax Cut Act. As a father of three college-aged children who will soon enter the workforce, I am committed to pro-growth policies that help our nation's job creators to get back on track, expand and hire so that we see long-term economic growth and job creation."
